Sasha Reback
Registered Psychotherapist (RP)
Hello, my name is Sasha Reback. I am a Registered Psychotherapist and I'm passionate about helping adults navigate difficult life transitions, cope with daily stressors, determine how best to achieve work-life balance, and learn how to apply strength-based, solution-focused approaches to support mental well-being.
My Approach to Therapy.
My approach is warm, empathetic, non-judgmental, and supportive. I recognize the vulnerability we face in sharing personal experiences and prioritize establishing trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship to ensure meaningful and insightful conversations that will support healing.
In my sessions, emphasis is placed upon understanding your preferred vision for self, relationships, and/or future to achieve greater alignment in these areas. Most of my practice focuses on supporting a healthy relationship with oneself by promoting greater self-awareness, supporting healthy thinking patterns, and guiding individuals to recognize their inherent resiliency.
I also support individuals who may face substance use and/or mental health challenges related to mood, anxiety, ADHD, and chronic pain. I have a special interest in working with all high achieving professionals, including those seeking support in managing difficult adjustment reactions, burnout, and/or compassion fatigue.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic perspectives and modalities in sessions that are person-centred, trauma-informed and grounded in best practice approaches determined by the needs of each client. Some of these modalities include solution-focused/brief therapy, CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and emotion focused approaches to psychotherapy.
My Qualifications.
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Psychology from Trent University and a Postgraduate Certification in Addiction and Mental Health Studies from Durham College. My academic background has provided me with a solid foundation in psychological theory and evidence-based practices, equipping me to support clients in diverse and meaningful ways.
Professional
For nearly a decade, I have gained extensive clinical experience working with diverse populations, ranging from youth to older adults, navigating challenges such as opioid dependency, addictions, chronic pain, and co-occurring mental health conditions. My roles have spanned various settings, including Residential Withdrawal Management Services (RWMS), Community Withdrawal Management Services (CWMS), Mental Health and Addiction Crisis Support Services, Outpatient Community Treatment Services, RAAM Clinics (Rapid Access Addiction Medicine), Intensive Opioid Case Management, and acute care settings such as the emergency department or inpatient units within hospitals, providing individualized support through short-term case management, system navigation, and brief therapies.
Since 2019, I have been working as a psychotherapist in private practice across Durham Region and the GTA, supporting individuals with addictions, anxiety and mood disorders, chronic stress and burnout, life transitions, traumatic loss/grief, parenting, assertiveness, and relationship issues. I also support Adult ADHD through coaching and psychotherapy approaches such as CBT/DBT. I have a particular interest in working with professionals seeking to navigate high-stress workplace environments, achieve balance between work and home life, and enhance their overall well-being and success.
With a robust combination of education and practical experience, I bring a compassionate and informed approach to therapy, tailoring my care to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with.
Life Experience
My personal journey through life transitions has highlighted the value of creating a safe, supportive space for vulnerability, reflection, and growth. I understand how discomfort can lead to avoidant tendencies, unhelpful behaviors, and self-limiting narratives that may block healing and progress.
In therapy, I emphasize the importance of transparency and self-compassion as we confront the realities that keep us feeling stuck. Growth often requires us to face challenges head-on, and as Robert Frost wisely said, “The best way out is through.”
By fostering a space for honest self-exploration and challenging old patterns, I aim to support clients in uncovering their strengths and navigating their unique path forward with clarity and resilience.
Continuing Education
Over the years, I have received specialized training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused/Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Traumatic Loss/Grief. I also bring extensive experience as a group facilitator across a variety of areas, including chronic pain self-management, addiction and recovery, traumatic grief/loss, and psychoeducational skills-based programming. I am currently enrolled in training and working towards certification in Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT).
