About Eden Wellness Counselling & Psychotherapy
It’s time to stop suffering and start flourishing.
My Approach to Therapy.
At the foundation of my therapy practice is the creation of a safe space for my clients to be seen without fear of criticism or judgment. My approach balances gentle challenging with compassion. I use a holistic, integrative approach to counselling that is evidence-based and trauma-informed. I draw upon humanistic, experiential, cognitive and behavioural modalities and tailor the experience to specific therapeutic goals which are crafted in collaboration during the initial sessions.
Once the therapeutic goals are established, my approach is built upon three pillars: awareness, acceptance, and action. During the sessions, we explore your symptom presentation, the root causes of these symptoms including the intersectionality between the past and the present, triggers, patterns, and core beliefs about yourself and the world. Together, we work towards easing your symptoms by breaking patterns which no longer serve you, shifting your internal dialogue, and shaping new beliefs and a vision of the life you want to lead. To do so, we will learn new behavioural activation techniques to change unwanted behaviours and habits, learn how to stay grounded and present through mindfulness practices, and connect to your self-compassion as we embrace radical acceptance of the present, including the pain and challenges we experience as humans.
My Qualifications.
Education
As a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) in Ontario I have a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I completed a practicum at York University where I received intensive training in Gestalt Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and mindfulness-based, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive practices. Additionally, I have experience working at several private practices in Toronto providing therapy for lawyers and other high achieving professionals.
Professional
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a lawyer in Toronto at a national, corporate law firm during which time I honed many skills transferable to counselling including strong listening, problem-oriented, and case conceptualization skills. After leaving private practice, I worked at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School as a legal career counsellor providing career counselling support to law students.
Life Experience
In addition to my professional qualifications, I am a mother of four school-aged children. As my decision to pivot to a new career was made when my youngest was three years old, I transitioned to becoming a psychotherapist while balancing family and personal commitments with graduate study and training.
Continuing Education
As a lifelong learner, I am committed to continuing my education. I have completed additional training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioural Training (DBT Skills), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
My Approach to Therapy.
My approach is warm, empathetic, non-judgmental, and supportive. I recognize the vulnerability we face in sharing personal experiences and prioritize establishing trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship to ensure meaningful and insightful conversations that will support healing.
In my sessions, emphasis is placed upon understanding your preferred vision for self, relationships, and/or future to achieve greater alignment in these areas. Most of my practice focuses on supporting a healthy relationship with oneself by promoting greater self-awareness, supporting healthy thinking patterns, and guiding individuals to recognize their inherent resiliency.
I also support individuals who may face substance use and/or mental health challenges related to mood, anxiety, ADHD, and chronic pain. I have a special interest in working with all high achieving professionals, including those seeking support in managing difficult adjustment reactions, burnout, and/or compassion fatigue.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic perspectives and modalities in sessions that are person-centred, trauma-informed and grounded in best practice approaches determined by the needs of each client. Some of these modalities include solution-focused/brief therapy, CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and emotion focused approaches to psychotherapy.
