My Approach to Therapy.

At the foundation of my therapy practice is the creation of a safe space for my clients to be seen without fear of criticism or judgment. My approach balances gentle challenging with compassion. I use a holistic, integrative approach to counselling that is evidence-based and trauma-informed. I draw upon humanistic, experiential, cognitive and behavioural modalities and tailor the experience to specific therapeutic goals which are crafted in collaboration during the initial sessions.

Once the therapeutic goals are established, my approach is built upon three pillars: awareness, acceptance, and action. During the sessions, we explore your symptom presentation, the root causes of these symptoms including the intersectionality between the past and the present, triggers, patterns, and core beliefs about yourself and the world. Together, we work towards easing your symptoms by breaking patterns which no longer serve you, shifting your internal dialogue, and shaping new beliefs and a vision of the life you want to lead. To do so, we will learn new behavioural activation techniques to change unwanted behaviours and habits, learn how to stay grounded and present through mindfulness practices, and connect to your self-compassion as we embrace radical acceptance of the present, including the pain and challenges we experience as humans.

My Qualifications.

Education

I am a Registered Psychotherapist, licensed with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) in Ontario. In addition to my JD in law, I have a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I completed my practicum training at York University where I received intensive training in Gestalt Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and mindfulness-based, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive practices. Additionally, prior to founding Eden Wellness, I worked at multiple private counselling practices in Toronto, providing therapy for lawyers and other high achieving professionals.

Professional

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a lawyer in Toronto at a national, corporate law firm during which time I honed many skills transferable to counselling including strong listening, problem-oriented, and case conceptualization skills. After leaving private legal practice, I worked at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School as a legal career counsellor providing career counselling to law students.

In addition to my therapy practice, I am an Adjunct Faculty member at Osgoode Hall Law School where I teach a groundbreaking credited course on Mental Health, Wellness and the Legal Profession for upper year law students.

Life Experience

As a mother of four children and a working professional (both in my capacity as a therapist and in my previous work as a lawyer) I am well versed with the demands and challenges of balancing family and personal commitments with professional responsibilities. In supporting my high achieving clients, I leverage my lived experiences to foster meaningful connections and provide valuable insights.

Continuing Education

I am a lifelong learner, committed to continuing and expanding my education and tool kit. Over the years, I have completed additional training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioural Training (DBT Skills), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

I hold Level 1 trainings in IFS, EFIT, the Gottman Method, as well as having completed the EFT Externship for couples.
