Eden Wellness - what’s in a name?

One of the first matters I had to determine when I started planning for my counselling & psychotherapy practice was what I was going to call my clinic. Similar to when my husband and I decided upon the names of our four children, I did not take this task lightly. In many ways, I have considered the launch of my private practice to be akin to having a “fifth” child; it has been a labour of love, a vision of the future I have longed to create for myself professionally, and a reflection of my own personal inner growth throughout the years. When we named our children, each name was chosen to reflect a certain meaning; names were not assigned because we thought they were “cute” or “catchy” or “timely;” rather, they had depth, dimension, and history. Furthermore, our children were never named until they were born as their names were chosen from a felt sense of connection. In similar fashion, Eden Wellness was named after deep reflection of the experience I want to create for myself and my clients, and the beliefs that guide me.  Eden Wellness’ name pays homage to the biblical reference of the Garden of Eden. For those unfamiliar, the Garden of Eden is a place of paradise. The Hebrew word, Eden (pronounced Eh-den), is connected to the concept of “delight” or “happiness.” It is often associated with bliss, peacefulness, and completeness. There is great healing power in nature, and the garden reference draws upon this. The logo for Eden Wellness, for example, is symbolic of this as it was designed to be a tree, the bark being a helping hand, and the leaves a salmon/orange colour similar to the beautiful shades of fall leaves marking a time of transition and change. On a personal note, Eden is my daughter’s name from whom I draw motivation, and inspiration. Eden was paired with Wellness in the name of my clinic as my vision is to create an experience of wellness in the practice, a holistic connection of body, mind, and spirit. And so, Eden Wellness was born, and is a source of my own inner peace, bliss, and happiness.
